The Weinstein Company

#1 Post by Buttery Jeb »

According to this Indiewire article, The Weinstein Company has acquired a 70% stake in Genius Products, in an effort to build up the DVD distribution for their new company. This deal includes Wellspring Media, which Genius bought last year, as well as The Sundance Channel's home video label.

I'm not excited at all. The Weinsteins don't share, and I hate what they did with the Belle de jour DVD.

You're behind the times. The Weinsteins have nothing to do with Miramax anymore and they weren't sitting on all those titles just for the fun of it. As long as they don't figure out some kind of funky bookkepping scheme again, they shouldn't be repeat offenders.

They've released some good movies, but I'm just going to cringe everytime I think of the marriage of the Weinsteins and Wellspring's catalog.

I remember reading in Down and Dirty Pictures Harvey's favorate movie was The 400 Blows. Is this why they made the purchase?

Weinsteins launch Asian film fund
The Weinstein Co. said it hopes to take advantage of lower costs by shooting in Asia while adding a "Western sensibility" to produce movies that appeal to both Asian and Western markets.

NYTimes published a profile of the company today, describing its ongoing financial challenges, Harvey Weinstein's Oscar-bound projects may put the company in the spotlight, but the other members of the increasingly influential board of directors is pushing for more profitable fare.

Chuck Berry has been known to ask for a bag of cash minutes before a show (or in Taylor Hackford's case, the morning he was supposed to film Chuck), and very few people have gotten away with not complying. A very young Harvey Weinstein (before he ever produced a film) was one of them, thanks to two SWAT team members he hired for security.

Good luck getting actresses unless you turn into a Tarentino revenge film.

At the very least it needs to have "Portrait" in the title, as that makes anything sound classy!
