I had hopes, at the very least, of a good cry ala Robert Stack in 1941. Alas, this version never tugged my heart. There's a whole lot of blandness, especially the two kids, even Dumbo when he's not flying around the circus tent. Danny Devito as the impresario provides some life to what is mostly a downer about lost mothers.
I thought Burton was subversive in Michael Keaton's entertainingly demented corporate raider. He creates Dreamland, a dark inversion of Walt's Disneyland. Its fiery destruction and Dumbo's escape has considerable visual flair, at least in an IMAX theater.

Re: The Films of 2019
Keaton and DeVito were the best things about the movie (though the elephant was cute), with a demented charm to the last act. But there was nothing to care about in this film and it just dragged. My kids liked it.

So did mine. It broke my heart to tell them they were such disappointments.cdnchris wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 1:29 pm Keaton and DeVito were the best things about the movie (though the elephant was cute), with a demented charm to the last act. They stick in any tongue-in-cheek Batman Returns references?cdnchris wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 1:29 pm Keaton and DeVito were the best things about the movie (though the elephant was cute), with a demented charm to the last act.
