Changes to the Film Forums

#1 Post by domino harvey »

Hello all! You’ve probably noticed a slight shift in the Film-related subforums. Over the next few days, moderators will be consolidating all threads for specific films from Old Films and New Films into one subforum, Films, and moving other, broader film discussion topics into the General Film Discussion subforum. We will have more to say about these changes later, but for now, the tl;dr is

You will notice threads you’ve already read being marked unread as they move location. Do not be alarmed, no one has made new insights into your favorite film. Repeat, no new insights.

Love,
the Mods

Mods here. As a test, can any (non-moderator) member confirm that they can see this message? Also, can you access threads in either the Films or General Film Discussion threads?

I can see this message. I cannot access either the Films or General Film Discussions thread though.

Both say, "You do not have the required permissions to view or read topics within this forum."

That's what we suspected, thanks for the confirmation. This should be fixed soon!

Can members let us know if they are now able to access the Films/General Film Discussion subforums?

But now where can I go if I want to remain clean from the thoughts of nonmods?

This is killing me that every thread is now marked "unread"! I allow myself a little bit of OCD by reading through every post in the majority of the sub-forums so I can always quickly identify new posts the next time I visit. Do I have to click open every thread to "clear the field" or is this a temporary situation?

If you're on the Unread Posts page, you can click "Mark all read" on the top right to clear everything, then just check New Posts for any you may have missed since you last checked before the Great Reorganization

Or just navigate the forum through "New Posts"

It's not really about finding the new posts (I am aware of the "New Posts" option); it's about eliminating all the little "tan" and "red" icons designating the new posts! I never noticed the "mark all read" option before, so that solved my conundrum immediately.
