When veteran bounty hunter Morg Hickman (Henry Fonda, My Darling Clementine) rolls into town, he finds the population paralyzed by fear. The local sheriff has been killed, leaving the inexperienced Ben Owens (Anthony Perkins, Psycho) to fill the void with the hope of securing a permanent position. Morg discovers that the newly appointed young sheriff is having difficulty facing the provocations of a notorious bully, Bart Bogardus (Neville Brand, Riot in Cell Block 11). Morg, a former sheriff, takes it upon himself to teach Owens how to assert himself and maintain order.

I really enjoyed this. Great performances across the board, stunning B&W cinematography, and engaging story. Coming into the film without prior knowledge, I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of substance under the hood, including a sophisticated examination of American racism (as relevant now as it was back then). The film's only weakness is that it is fairly predictable, at least from today's viewer's vantage point. Neil Sinyard's appreciation is very informative and fun. The transfer and encoding both are top-notch. This is a strong contender for The Other Label Award 2024.

just panic bought a copy off Orbit after The Shootist had the same thing happen. pretty cool that the Paramount licenses have sold really quickly in the states, but also surprising that 4Ks of Fear and Loathing and Time Bandits haven't. granted, there are competing region A editions, but still
There will be a standard edition (without the slipcover and booklet) eventually.

I assume that they did a much smaller printruns for this and The Shootist than they did for Fear and Loathing and Time Bandits.
