Lionsgate: The Dead

#1 Post by Jeff »

At long last!

Now, the questions are: Will Lionsgate release this in its correct aspect ratio? Probably. Will they be able to include John Huston and the Dubliners? Probably not. Is that the most ridiculous cover they could have come up with for this film? Definitely.

It is however a great cover for Kiss of the Spider Woman

Here's hoping LionsGate doesn't do an Ironweed on it.

Isn't it a bit more Mrs Doubtfire?

At least it's coming out and at least it's cheap.

As was the UK disc from Network, which came from a terribly worn theatrical print and sported a less than average transfer. At that price, I doubt that Lionsgate will much improve on that version.

The transfer is a little soft, but it's still good ("terribly worn" is incorrect).

FWIW, Lionsgate put out a terrific disc of Alligator for the same price, so there's still hope.

Another great poster forgotten, replaced with a truly awful DVD cover.

Original poster:

But yes, at least this film will finally be in circulation on R1.

And the picture of her on the cover of The Dead isn't good either.

More like Touched by an Angel (or choose your Lifetime Original Movie).

Perhaps Lionsgate thought the title of the film was "The Undead"?

I hope they include at least the trailer (seriously; it's better than many short films).

It means it's not cropped fullscreen. Pretty sad that such a thing even needs to be verified in 2009, isn't it?

DVD TALK. Looks like it's an improvement on the Network disc.

DVD Verdict takes the opposite view and claims the disc has been royally screwed up. Quality!

Most importantly, DVD Verdict says that ~10 mins is missing...

And they're damn right, as the PAL disc indeed is about 80 mins. long. What a disaster!

At least they didn't hack of the last 10 minutes. Well, I say at least...what a debacle.

The Network version isn't brilliant but its certainly watchable.
