I've been a fan of his work ever since I saw Perdita Durango (still have yet to see the complete uncut European version) and have been tracking down his movies on VHS via eBay for some time but it's time I got them on DVD. Anybody know if there are plans to release 'em on Region 1 any time soon? I know some have been making their way onto that Region (800 Bullets for example). Anybody else a fan of his work?

I've only seen one of his films but I'd love to get recommendations on others.
I actually own Muertos de risa (Dying of Laughter) which is region free NTSC. I have the Lolafilms release but on www.machiaveldvd.com it lists it as Region 2 Pal so I'm a little confused. I bought it in Toronto at Bay St. Video. It's a great little film.
I've also noticed 800 Bullets for sale NTSC Region 0 @ www.xploitedcinema.com
Good Luck.

Yeah, I have this on VHS... excellent movie. I read somewhere that De La Iglesia tried to get Ministry to do the soundtrack for the movie but he couldn't afford their price tag... damn!cafeman wrote:Huge fan here. His masterpiece is El Dia de la Bestia, hands down. Track it down any way you can.
Thanks for the info! I will look those up. I suppose my other avenue is eBay of course but I'm trying to avoid dodge DVDs if possible.g30 wrote:I actually own Muertos de risa (Dying of Laughter) which is region free NTSC. I'm a huge fan of his work. I own the special edition region 2(Spain) that is now out of print of the Day of the Beast, which I consider to be his best film so far. I recently bought the region 1 La Comunidad (The Commonwealth) for around $10 bucks on Borders. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that the disc contains De la Iglesia first film, a short feature titled Mirinda Asesinas, as an extra. There is also the region 1 Dying of Laughter, 800 Bullets, Dance with the Devil (R-rated or Uncut) and Accion Mutante. The R1 release of Accion Mutante is crap and overpriced. Try to get the R2 version, which I heard is the best but I believe its also OOP. I don't really know if I have seen the uncut version of Perdita Durango too. I have the Ardustry release and it not rated but has the same running time as the R-Rated. I'm awaiting for his latest, Crimen Ferpecto to be released. I think the best releases can be found at www.dvdgo.com, although I warn you guys that shipping out of Spain is pretty expensive. I really think De la Iglesia is the best director nobody knows about.

For region 2 go to www.dvdgo.com a look for the DVds using their Spanish title . They have now for pre-order 2 packs of Crimen Ferpecto with either Day of the Beast, 800 Bullets or Perdita Durango. I think the last 3 are OOP individually. I hope these is helpful for all those who are interested in his work.
Enjoy!

I am also a huge fan of this man's work and have all his films on spanish DVDs.
For those who want to know, their edition of Perdita Durango is uncut as it runs for 122 minutes and has an unsubtitled audio commentary by Iglesias, a trailer and some interviews (also unsubbed).
Fletch, I recommend that you order them all (at least the ones you really want to buy) from www.dvdgo.com and take advantage from the double-bill promotions that they currently have as it's very likely that those older titles will disappear once the promotion ends.

I saw his latest film, "Ferpect Crime," this past Thursday at the Philadelphia Film Festival and thought it was excellent. Someone at the Q&A afterward asked him about DVDs for "Day of the Beast" and "Mutant Action," but he didn't address that part of the question. My bet is that the titles will eventually be targeted by TLA for R1, since they released "800 Bullets" here and are one of the main sponsors of the festival.
He did mention that his next project was a sci-fi film about an alien who falls in love with a 6' tall black prostitute.

Thanks! Yeah, I really want that uncut version of Perdita Durango. That was my first intro to De La Iglesia's work and was just wonderfully crazed and gonzo. I've seen versions on eBay that also feature the film's soundtrack on a bonus CD. Sweet!Annie Mall wrote:I am also a huge fan of this man's work and have all his films on spanish DVDs.

I think that one's the german OOP version, if I'm not mistaken.Fletch F. Fletch wrote:I really want that uncut version of Perdita Durango. I've seen versions on eBay that also feature the film's soundtrack on a bonus CD. Sweet!
Specs from dvd-inside.de:
As for it running for 126 minutes, it must be a typo because if you check out the specs for the single disc edition, it shows 128 minutes, which only vouches for that reason.Originaltitel: Perdita Durango (Mexiko / USA 1997)

Day of the Beast is a satanic comedy. Make that what you will...
Great fun, too.
For anyone who would like to know, I just received today the Ferpect Crime DVD (his very latest film) and can confirm that it has english subs on the feature.
Michael, I think I can recommend you as a blind buy Perdita Durango aka Dance with the Devil. If you remember that charaqter from Wild at Heart and would like to know how someone made a film about her, check it out as well. One of the very best performances of Javier Bardem, period!

I finally snatched an excellent condition copy of Accion Mutante on ebay ( the region 2 release). Still, there is no Crimen Ferpecto release in R1 even though it had a limited theatrical release and it has been played every now and then on Cinemax and the Movie Channel. does anybody know if a R! release is in the horizon or should i cross the border and order a copy from Spain?

If you can handle either the original Spanish or French subtitles, plus of course Region 2 PAL, Day of the Beast still seems to be available in France.
I reviewed this disc many years ago here. Early DVD Times reviews are undated, but this was no later than 2000, so I suspect I'd be tougher on it now - but I still recall it being pretty watchable.

My first language is Spanish, so subs are not a problem. The only thing is that is a little pricey to import the DVD from Spain. I believe that shipping is at least $15 if I order it from DVDGO.com . That is the reason i was asking if there was a region 1 version on the horizon. Still, if there is a place where I could buy the Spanish release for $25 or less, I will snatch it in a second.
