Landmark show. Badly needed on DVD. Sets similar to the Twilight Zone Definitive sets would be great.

The US "presents" will be a 3 disc set SRP of $39.95.
sounds good, but why does the UK get 6 discs?

I expect that the US discs will be flippers whilst the R2-PAL discs will be DVD-9s. Still, it does go against Universal to do something like this, as all their releases of Knight Rider, The A-Team, etc, are flippers in all regions. Why indeed!

I find it interesting that these (apparently) problematic Universal DVD 18s are split up into single sided DVD 9s by Netflix, presumable to make one rent more discs, and return the discs sooner. Fine with me, if it means less grubby fingers on those difficult to handle double sided discs. Maybe these pressing are causing less problems in different machines as well?

I don't have the two new Hitchcock releases, but I've only ever had one, very brief glitch with a double-sided Universal DVD. While playing The General Died at Dawn from the Gary Cooper Collection, my Pioneer freezed for a split second and then skipped forward about 10 seconds. When I "rewound" it and replayed the troublesome spot, it played fine. Otherwise, I haven't had a problem.

Maybe it does just depend on what type of machine one has....

I've been ripping all the Universal DVD18s (Monster Legacy, Gary Cooper, etc) and burning to DVD5, one film per disc, and giving away the originals.

No stupid menus to navigate, no small ring-print to read to see which side you need, no glitches.

The Gary Cooper set had the skankiest packaging I think I've ever bought.

Universal score zero in physical presentation of their films.

Tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that Universal is eyeing to release the second season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents on October 17th. More info here.

I just hope that they don't release it using DVD-18 disc.

Good news, of course, but at this rate I'll have to wait years to get "The Hitchcock Hour," which in my opinion was superior to (and far stranger and more interesting than) "Presents." Did anybody here ever see "The Jar," from a story by Ray Bradbury and music by Bernard Herrmann? One of the greatest things that ever came out of television.

Season 2 will be on 5 discs for $39.98 so they are not dvd-18s.
what's with October? Why are Hitch's releases always in october?

So, seeing as how the first season of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" was released on DVD a year ago, that means we have roughly six years to wait until Universal gets around to releasing "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" to this format. Eight years until we get to the episodes with original Bernard Herrmann scores. Talk about an ass burner.

Apparently KDOC in Southern California is showing "Hitchcock Hour." I'm not sure why this show is so obscure and that nobody else is showing it, it was probably the best show ever on television.

But of course, "Presents" is quite good, too.

Beaver reviews the second season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. And it looks good considering they corrected the first season's DVD production mistakes.

I enjoyed the first set so much that I think I will buy this second one simply based on the strength and quality consistency of the episodes.

Anyone know how I can get a hold of the Suspicion episode "Four O'Clock," The Hitchcock Hour episode "I Saw the Whole Thing," and the Ford Startime episode "Incident on a Corner" without having to shell out for this, which looks to be out of print anyway.

Another way to put the question is: will Universal get their act together and release a set similar to that French box?
