Network in the UK are releasing the obscure Alan Clarke oddity Billy the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire for £12.99 on August 7th for its worldwide home video debut. I've not yet seen it, but it's got several very enthusiastic write-ups on the IMDb and is the only one of his big-screen ventures yet to materialise on DVD.

Very cool. Is there much Clarke available on DVD outside the Blue Underground box set? Films like Christine, Contact, and Baal. I haven't looked into this too much but it's time I saw some of his other work.

I have more or less everything Alan Clarke has done on dvd-r. Around 20 titles and I will shortly be getting a handful more, namely 'Nina' and 'Sovereigns' Company' .The quality varies but most are copied from vhs and some are copied from the original bbc masters (friends in high places come in handy eh).
'Road' is certainly a must-see, one of the most entertaining things I've seen on television.

Written by Trevor Preston, BILLY THE KID AND THE GREEN BAIZE VAMPIRE is a (cult?) curiosity that emerged mid eighties from the Film Four stable... A musical about snooker, it stars Phil Daniels (QUADROPHENIA) as the eponymous sports star... I saw it on original release, and while it doesn't quite work, it certainly has it moments, and makes me nostalgic for an era when ambitious and offbeat films like this could get made... Sheffield Crucible was never better!
