According to DVDBeaver the Japanese Superbit versions of Taxi Driver, Dr. Strangelove and Jurassic Park are the best versions to get. What's the quality of Close Encounter of the Third Kind, Gandhi, On the Waterfront and Easy Rider Superbits? Are they better than the western releases of the films? It seems pretty hard to find quality information on them.
I wouldn't want to pay the crazy prices if it's not worth it.....
Japanese Superbits? (On the Waterfront, Easy Rider, etc?)

I think SuperBit DVDs are not worth it at all in the first place.
Taking off all the extras to put the entire movie on 1 disc,
and the quality is marginally better? No thanks.
There are exceptions though, like Lawrence Of Arabia and Taxi Driver's
original DVDs had color problems, then corrected on remastered Superbit.

Well, I feel that the color on the Japanese Superbit of Taxi Driver looks wrong - to much yellow or something compared to the SE:

I am actually surpised that Sony has yet to revisit this on on R1. If they could only bag the Criterion commentary.

I read DVDBeaver's review of Taxi Driver and hesitated on getting the Superbit because of the colors. Eventually I decided to get it.
When actually viewing the film I didn't notice anything particularly wrong with the colors. The picture is warmer than the old release but not too much. If you look at the review and the candle lit scene with De Niro and Foster I think the new version could be more real. The other versions are too dark and cold. Maybe.
