A film that I've been longing for for years are now finally on DVD.
It's released in Poland and has to my knowledge only polish subtitles. but it got a polish and a English dubbed audio track, so if you van stand watching a Bergman movie dubbed you might enjoy this even if you don't know Swedish or Polish.
I've found some screenshots online. Please note that these ARE NOT from the DVD, but from a Xvid-file encoded from the DVD.
I've tried to find a place to buy it online but on traffic-club.pl which I've bought polish DVDs from before didn't have it so i wonder if anyone can help me to track it down on site where I can order from outside Poland.
Rockserwis has it - and at an insanely low price, too.
I've used them before, and they've been fine: enough of their site is in English to make ordering straightforward and they send regular e-mails updating me on progress. The last order I sent took three weeks from ordering to delivery (in the UK).

That is one crazy price, indeed! But from the looks of it, they're only offering the theatrical version of it as opposed to the full 200 minutes running TV series. Still, nice to know that it's out there but for now, I'm perfectly alright with my bootleg that I got from superhappyfun -- original swedish audio with english subs.
I wonder if we're ever going to see this amazing piece of work in its full glory someday.
yes it's true it's the theatrical version. have the tv-version ever had a theatrical release? it sound a little paradoxical i know but, fanny and alexande and scenes from a marrige is both available in it's long versions for the cinemas.
i hope we get a criterionrelease with both versions like F&A and SFaM, but till then this will be a fine complement.
Check another Polish site. They will have it back in stock on December 12. They have it (or will have it) for 19 pln ($6.50) and shipping to USA is 28 pln for a total of 47 pln ($16). Merlin.com.pl has instructions in English. I do not have this DVD so I don't know anything about the quality.
Michael, what you have to watch with Rockserwis, is that if you order more than one item at a time, they will wait until all items are in stock before dispatching, so if one of the items is not in stock, they'll wait until they have all items before dispatching them to you. I had this problems, but I emailed them and asked them to send the in-stock item now and charge me extra shipping, but as their prices are so low, it wasn't a big deal.
Anyway, it's great to see this Holy Grail on DVD, period. I have a DVD-R from an ancient VHS. It was from Super Happy Fun and they are known to 'upgrade' their DVD-Rs when a DVD appears, adding subs from their old DVD-R to the new DVD-R.
Hopefully, an english-subbed edition will appear somewhere else soon.
