Sony issued on laserdisc Bruckner's 6th, 7th and 8th symphonies conducted by Sergiu Celibidache with Munich orchestra late in his career. These laserdiscs help me remember the extraordinary performance of Bruckner 4th he gave with the same orchestra in Carnegie Hall.

Sony also issued some ten laserdiscs of Glenn Gould performances and conversations. These were absolutely delightful and spellbinding.

I have been waiting for Sony to release these on DVD. These are among the most treasured videos of classical music I have. Does anyone know if Sony still holds rights to these, and what the reason for their neglect might be?

Two of Celibidache's Munich concerts are already on DVD, but neither has been issued by Sony. A Ravel/Debussy concert is available from Dreamlife in Japan (video clip here). Rehearsal excerpts of Bruckner's Mass No. 3 (NOT a complete performance) are available from Arthaus.

Incidentally, some earlier Celibidache performances are due to appear on DVD shortly. The 1969 Turin RAI Bruckner 9 has just been issued by Opus Arte in Europe (video clip here); I suspect a USA release may follow. Several other Turin telecasts (Mozart 39; Schubert 2; Berlioz Fantastique; Strauss Tod und Verklarung; Prokofiev 5) are being issued by TDK in Japan in June; some of these may perhaps appear on Opus Arte too. And Stuttgart versions of Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade and Strauss's Till Eulenspiegel (reportedly both rehearsal & performance) are due from Euroarts in the USA on April 24.
