Armond loves it.

Favorite line (among many contenders):
The coarsened emotion and craft of The Bourne Ultimatum or There Will Be Blood prevents the deep sentiment that Chow elicits.

First things first, the picture in the link portnoy provides is a bit of a spoiler!

That said, I greatly enjoyed the the film as well. Chow lays out a familiar family film framework (disadvantaged protaganists, broadly sketched "enemies", fantastical plot device) but works wonders with it. Much of the success is owed to the young Jiao Xu who plays the little boy. She (yes, it's a girl) really some wonderful dramatic moments, but also has some incredible comedic timing (though Chow is certainly no slouch in editing). Chow actually takes a backseat in this one, allowing the youngster and CGI sidekick bring much of the laughs (adolescent as they are). A charming film that doesn't knock it out of the park, so much as feel right at home in it.
