Cria Cuervos arrived from DVD Planet in a big yellow envelope with the Fuller set. The plastic that holds the DVD in place was smashed in The Steel Helmet and the Cria case spine was crushed. All DVD's appear to be okay, but I emailed DVD Planet to ask them to return to shipping in boxes. Out of about 75 DVD's shipped in the boxes, I've only ever had one that arrived damaged. The first two I received in a yellow envelope were both damaged.

I encourage everyone who has had similar problems with the yellow envelopes to email DVD Planet and let them know you're not happy with this shipment method.

I know we usually frown on polls, but is there a way to put one together to gather a little more information on the circumstances of DVD Planet's use of packaging? My last shipment from them was the fuller set, which arrived in cardboard, just like everything else I've ever ordered from them. I always use free shipping, and I live in the US. Is there anyone else with the same set of variables that has had to deal with the dreaded envelopes?

I think the key to receiving the yellow envelope is ordering the Fuller set AND any other disc.

I tend to pre-order a handful of things together, which usually means that everything gets shipped separately as its released. Might be worth changing the timing on orders to make sure everything gets shipped by itself.

or that you have enough discs that they wouldn't fit in an envelope.

I also ordered À nos amours recently (with Ivan's Childhood) from DVDPlanet and it triggered the yellow envelope method of shipping.

I've spent literally thousands of dollars at dvdplanet.com on hundreds of shipments and have always recieved cardboard boxes. I hope they don't start making these envelopes the new standard.

I just received the Bernard set and two other DVDs in the dreaded yellow envelope. Luckily they were all unharmed, but I don't like playing Russian Roulette with my purchases.

I'll bet you're right...exact same thing happened to me resulting in a crushed corner of the Cria Cuervos case. On the other hand, I received several packages from them this week of one and two DVD cases...and they arrived in the usual boxes.

I received The Milky Way and House of Games today in the standard box from DVD Planet. They may only use yellow envelopes when they have to ship the oddly sized Fuller set with one other keep case.

Those of us who ordered the Saura set with Mala Noche can probably expect them to ship in another yellow envelope.

We're not the only ones fed up with the yellow envelope situation
Everyone needs to remember to contact DVDPlanet and tell them how dissatisfied you are with their yellow envelope policy, otherwise they'll not be able to properly gauge the effect it is having

Anyone get Night On Earth or Stranger Than Paradise shipped from DVDPlanet? Normally I'd have gotten a shipping notice by now. For some reason their website has always said that the release date for those is 9/30

first official word from DVDPlanet on this fiasco, courtesy of DVDTalk Forum
Mark from DVDPlanet wrote:Re: Bubble Mailers

I wanted to say that we no longer ship items in bubble mailers that are being shipped internationally. We are in the process of reviewing customer feedback on the mailers, evaluating damage rates, etc. Will post more information when I have it. It is not our intent to downgrade the quality of merchandise you receive from us.

I am very sorry if some of your items have been damaged. This is a hot topic for me and I am trying to bring some resolution.

Speaking of which, Stranger than Paradise and Night on Earth both arrived in a thin bubble mailer. I wouldn't mind so much but there's so much room for these DVDs move around in transit. Both these discs arrived in good shape though so no complaining.

Has there been any more news on DVDPlanet and the bubble mailers? I was about to order an Eclipse set from them when I remembered the fiasco.

Seriously! If I'm going to buy any Eclipse sets or Criterion digipaks in the future, somebody else is getting my business. I can understand if a discount company wants to cut corners here and there, but bubble-mailers are not the way to go. If I'm buying something in the ordinary plastic keepcase, then maybe I'll give DVD Planet my business.

Based on reports from the DVDTalk forums, they're still sending multiple disc orders in bubble mailers, and those morons posting there are all "Well, nothing got hurt so I guess I'm okay with this new policy after all!" #-o

I haven't gotten shipping confirmations from DVD Planet for Robinson Crusoe and Martha Graham which I'm a little disappointed since I usually receive Criterions on the Saturday before release date.

I, for one, don't mind the bubble packages. In fact, I prefer them, because they fit in my mailbox, where the boxes usually don't (unless it's a single DVD box), in which case I don't even know they've been "delivered" because the postal service in this area is totally inept. Haven't had any damaged DVDs with the bubble envelopes.

Still waiting for Martha Graham and 3Penny to ship.
