Both. But Iowa has nailed this sucker since Penn is losing steam.

Since when does Iowa determine how everyone else is going to vote? Just 'cause they go first doesn't mean...

...

Oh.

I'm with you if by anything you're solely going with the oscar truck and not, let's say, Disaster Movie.

The deplorable Scott Foundas goes postal over Gomorrah's omission from the horrific Oscar foreign language list.

Uh, that was me. But some other mod just went and deleted it (I reposted your list in your post above).

I thought we always had a separate thread for Oscar predix and discussion, but maybe that was in ye olden tymes and I'm not "with it" anymore.

Hmm, looks like another mod edited my previous post to add the predix. No harm done 8-)

Of course, since Foundas is on the awful NY Film Fest selection committee, he's simply offended that one of his cherished picks was sensibly ignored.

Every year, some critic takes umbrage at some foreign film or documentary has been "snubbed," as if the Oscars has ever actually made rational choices based on quality and not on a combination of perceived prestige, liberal guilt, and a sense of earned-ness. It's usually Roger Ebert, but he's obviously not well enough to uphold that time-honored tradition. Better Foundas than Ben Lyons, I guess.

It hardly matters since the Class, despite not being about the Holocaust, will win

But it's kind of about post-colonialism/racism, which always runs a close second to the Holocaust come awards time.

Let's be honest: Even the biggest defender of the Oscars conveniently forgets to mention the Foreign Language category in any defense

Yes, the execrable (sp) Class will likely win. What's idiotic is someone writing a ginormous article about how crappy the foreign list is given that (i) it is always crappy, as others point out and (ii) Gomorrah is hardly worth getting that worked up about.

That aside, I am always in favor of giving awards to movies in which young men in underpants casually fire automatic weapons.

I don't know, if Waltz with Bashir is nominated I think it'll win. Previous awards (Globes, NSFC) + current Israel situation + Wall-E will get Best Animated so it has no chance there (if it even gets a nom) = Best Foreign Film.

I guess in a desperate ploy to grab viewers, Oscar is keeping the presenters secret until showtime. Perhaps they've raised Heath from the dead?

Wow, there's actually zero noms for Happy Go Lucky, was it not eligible for the BAFTA's?

It was definitely eligible, but to be fair it had to go up against the unstoppable awards juggernaut that is Mamma Mia!

Gran Torino? Controversial, Antoine. Clint might nab an acting nom, but I can't see the film up there as a BP.

My guess would be:

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire

(although personally I'd replace F/N with The Wrestler)
