I just can't conceive of it being something you could make a show of? I've never seen any of the HBO serious shows, though. I am a die-hard tv killing tirader. I don't even have a cable hook up for my TV, I get 0 channels. Even having Cronenbergs assistance, he isn't doing the script. I would much rather see more quality cinema than a spin off of a wonderful film.

Get Blue Underground's 2 disc Fast Company LE. Disc two features both films in excellent anamorphic transfers.exte wrote:Anyone know where I can find these two? Crimes of the Future is listed on the Criterion Laserdisc of Dead Ringers, but not the dvd. Anyone know why it was left off? How do you suppose I can view these?

Yes, it's a direct port. Even the menus say it's a criterion dvd. I have that Canadian release, and my friend has the original, so trust me...Achris wrote:If I am not able to get a hold of the criterion release, would I be right in assuming that the Canadian 15th anniversary edition of the film would be my best bet? The improper aspect ratio and extras are a turn off on the warner release.

I purchased a copy of the OOP Dead Ringers from Ebay last year.
The seller guaranteed it's authenticity and had a 100% rating.
However, when I try and use the subtitles to understand Jeremy Iron's muffling nothing appears. Did DEAD RINGERS have no subtitles whatsoever, including standard English subtitles, or have I purchased a well-disguised bootleg.

in addition to the Fast Company LE, there's a really nice R2 DVD with both films from Reel23, which is quickly becoming a new favorite company of mine.Anyone know where I can find these two? Crimes of the Future is listed on the Criterion Laserdisc of Dead Ringers, but not the dvd. Anyone know why it was left off? How do you suppose I can view these?

Does anyone know what the sound problem on the first printing was for sure? This was the only "known problem" disc I never traded in for a fixed copy, and now that it is long out of print, I am pretty much stuck with my first printing copy. I never noticed any problems that I can recall, but am VERY curious as to what the exact problem was.The Fanciful Norwegian wrote:Yes, there was. It fixed a technical glitch of some kind on the commentary track, IIRC.
Anyone remember?

The Reversal of Fortune win was to make up for the oversight of this I imagine. Liked seeing Jill Hennessy and the identical twin sister I never knew she had (I thought the twinning effects were done on her too until I saw the credits). Fitting she would start out in a "ripped from the headlines" film since Law & Order is most known for those.

In the larger, karmic sense, perhaps, but I doubt if this film and Cronenberg were even on Academy voters' radars at the time, and if they were, they would probably have repulsed / appalled them.Venom wrote:The Reversal of Fortune win was to make up for the oversight of this I imagine.

Re: 21 Dead Ringers
You might be surprised by the following, zedz. I vividly recall that when Irons specifically thanked Cronenberg early on in his acceptance speech, a considerable portion of the audience immediately -- and with more vigor than I would have expected -- applauded. I too have always suspected that Dead Ringers was on many members' minds when their ballots were cast. (I should also note that this suspicion is not intended to in any way diminish his performance in Reversal -- as Dershowitz quipped, "Irons does a better von Bülow than von Bülow.")zedz wrote:In the larger, karmic sense, perhaps, but I doubt if this film and Cronenberg were even on Academy voters' radars at the time, and if they were, they would probably have repulsed / appalled them.Venom wrote:The Reversal of Fortune win was to make up for the oversight of this I imagine.
