Lots of rumors going around, talk of people being called back to attend awards, Carlos Reygadas, Cristian Mungiu and Matteo Garone. plus the actresses of PARADISE: LOVE and BEYOND THE HILLS.

Another rumor, HOLY MOTORS will get nothing, as Moretti hated it.

Take it with a pinch of salt or not, but remember, Moretti has awarded Monsoon Wedding a top prize in the past.

I just saw Merde for the first time and while I thought it was brilliant, if Holy Motors is in that vein it's not Palme worthy. I hope that Reygadas or Haneke just basing off the press. I have to admit I'm interested in the Mungiu even though I've never cared for his other films.

My Guess:

Palme d’or - AMOUR
Grand prix - BEYOND THE HILLS
Prix du jury - IN THE FOG
Prix de la mise en scène - POST TENEBRAS LUX
Prix d’interprétation masculine - Denis Lavant in Holy Motors
Prix d’interprétation féminine - Emmanuelle Riva in AMOUR
Prix du scénario - REALITY

Robert Koehler ‏@bhkoe

Called back to Cannes for awards are Mungiu, Reygadas, Haneke, Loach, the lead actors in BEYOND THE HILLS. PARADISE LOVE lost in jury fight

I'd totally love it if the camera pans to Moretti if Haneke gets Best Director just to see the Italian's reaction.

The Guardian's live blog confirms that Haneke is in attendance (along with Loach, though that's moot now). Garrone's there too.

Now that Reygadas has won the Prix de la mise en scène (Best director), who will be up against Haneke for the Palme d'or/Grand prix struggle?

Apparently, Reygadas is throwing a barb at the press in his acceptance speech...

Andrew Pulver reports "quite a few screeches" when Mikkelsen's name was read out. Must have been the Tritignant camp.

Surprised to see Reality take the Grand Prix. I only read one review of it, but the reviewer was not too pleased with the film.

This is where nationalism comes into play.

Glad Morreti overcame his Haneke hate though. And very happy for Reygadas.

Very excited to see Amour win. I'm a fan of Haneke's and am eagerly anticipating his latest.

There were many surprises, as many expected films didn't receive much attention (Holy Motors, Killing Them Softly, Cosmopolis, etc.).

I imagine that other than the Palme D'Or and maybe Mikkelsen's Best Actor prize, the assembled critics will find a few bones to pick with the jury's other decisions. Angel's Share seems like a really charming and affable comedy (personally pleased for Loach though) but surely there were more deserving candidates for third prize. Reygadas getting Best Director is quite baffling if the reviews are any indication. Not even Riva for Amour? Feels a bit harsh considering the plaudits she and Tritignant got.
