Ah, it all comes together. The hostess who was working during my visit was the hottest woman I ever saw. Then again, Montreal is a monumental babe city. You could throw a rock down a street in Montreal and hit a hot chick. The hostess at Joe Beef was gorgeous too. As good as both places were, I had better meals at L'express and Rotisserie Romados. Oh, Schwartz's too. Man, gotta visit again.

This DVD is a lot of fun, and has Ralph Steadman inspired art for DVD menus.

Whoa, does it have English subtitles and where can I find it?! Martin Picard is a personal hero even though I can't cook to save my life.

We went to the sugar shack at his farm this year and it is a truly exceptional gastronomical experience, done for the love of food (and celebration of the maple syrup harvest) rather than profit. It is remarkably cheap for a metric ton of outrageously decadent food in a lovely setting.

And as for the look of women in Montreal: It is unbelievable. I have a notoriously bad filter for pointing out exceptional human specimens to my very understanding and mutually titillated wife and we reached a point on one of our trips where she had to give me an "Okay, you have to cool it." It's a hyper-beautiful universe there; even during the dead of winter so many women (and men) are fit, fashionable, and well put together.

Back to the point, though, if you really are mainly a collector...then do you also buy movies you don't even like just because they look nice? Maybe I'm being naive...but that seems ludicrous. I mean if baseball cards and stamps are a hobby you love playing with and looking at, more power to you. But just to look at and do nothing more?
I wish mine would do that. I think she's more likely to try and find some big boxes to put them all in, in order to hide them away.

You know, I don't know about the subs, I can handle French fairly well - so I never checked and right now I have the DVD lent out to a local chef in Philly. I'll check though... If you don't have Picard's book yet, it's great. Also the Joe Beef book is brilliant as well.

I love the way you described that situation with your wife - I do the same thing, but you described it in a much classier way. I feel like I give a Howard Stern "hey now!" shout whenever I see a babe in the city...

Back to topic... Samurai trilogy; I haven't gotten mine in the mail yet but I think the big disappointment is the unused art that was better than the cover. I'd buy it if it were wrapped in a plain paper bag but after seeing the other paintings, I think it is a shame to have them unused or in a book that will be opened very few times (I actually kind of feel bad for the artist).

Seems Toho vetoed Criterion & Yuko Shimizu's preferred cover for the Samurai Trilogy

Shimizu said the following on facebook
Actually, both Criterion and my favorite image was rejected of being used as the cover because the right was not granted from the Japanese film distributor. It was a pity. Although we 'like' this cover, we would have "LOVED' that as the cover.
I am not sure if I can even use the unused image on my website...too bad.
I really want to see this rejected image. (Mainly because you know that there was nothing objectionable about it and Toho only vetoed it because they have to be difficult.)

Sunday Bloody Sunday looks like a cover to some 70s-published how-to book about pleasing your spouse.

Rosemary's Baby is awesome. I'm undecided on Sunday Bloody Sunday, and The Forgiveness of Blood is just there. An okay month for covers, and nothing anyone here can easily bitch about.

Hurrah for not fucking up Rosemary's Baby. Some classic images are classic for a reason.

Sunday Bloody Sunday is reminiscent of Sex, Lies, and Videotape and Rabbit Hole design-wise.
This is a great month! Loving the green on Rosemary's Baby.

Ditch the white border and the Rosemary's Baby cover... is still disappointing. It's a lovely image but they really couldn't do anything more interesting with the title/credit typeface?

Isn't that the exact same cover as the Paramount Rosemary's Baby?

Also, spines 630-633 are currently blank so there was some sort of box set that they didn't finish on time. Wenders Road Trilogy?

And it looks like there is a box set reserved for something between Sunday Bloody Sunday and Rosemary's Baby.

The Criterion C on Rosemary's Baby is far too distracting even if it's floating way out there in nowhereland and the colors of the new Eclipse set looks just like the Lubitsch set.

Nonsense. The Lubitsch set is lavender and cornflower. The Gainsborough set is mauve and navy. Totally different.

Yeah, if any set looks similar to it it is the Downey set.

Which features dusky rose and violet. Honestly!

(Okay, yeah, they are a little overfond of this color combination.)

Ecstatic about Rosemary's Baby...intrigued by The Forgiveness of Blood. Nothing all that stunning this month like the last couple though. But nothing awful either. So there's that.

Someone's been spending too much time staring at the Pantone wheel.

That's the one I meant. At least the cover for The Forgiveness of Blood is cool. I'd love a poster for the WKW, though.
