Correction: they couldn't have picked a worse time to release it. They couldn't have waited a few days until this thread was locked and my post was forgotten?
Sarcastic PS: at least the cover art is great.

I can't wait anymore for this upgrade. I only hope that they make an exception by not using the Janus poster as their new cover art.
I think they should just keep the old cover. Why fix something if it ain't broke?

You know, I've been thinking that I'd love to see Insomnia get a Blu upgrade at some point! So that would be my guess for the month!

Crosses fingers in hopes for "Les amantes du pont neuf", especially considering Carlotta's plans to release remasters of "Mauvis sangue" & "Boy Meets Girl''. This would complete the Alex trilogy.

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this shot on video or something else that would render a blu release superfluous?

It was shot 16mm, which makes for the best kind of Blu-rays actually.

It was shot on 16mm and I believe the restoration was from the negative rather than SD tapes, but I could be wrong on that considering the FPS issue.

Berlin Alexanderplatz was also released on bluray in Japan last year.

The frame rate issue has already been discussed in depth on the forum. The restoration was done (from film elements) in 2K, which is about as good as you can hope for 16mm. A Blu-ray upgrade would be very welcome, but this would be one release that I'd hate to buy as a dual-format. All those discs.

With Grey Gardens, there's precedent for just doing a Blu-ray upgrade as opposed to a dual format one.

Don't worry, the slots will make it even thinner than the original release!

I have a piece due today in which I remark upon Criterion's persistent Rivettelessness, which would require hasty rewrites if that were to change all of a sudden. So maybe....
