Del Toro is a director who puts a lot of himself into his movies, and he has a long track record at this point as a distinctive auteur. There have been a lot of winners in that category who can't say that.

Also, again, he's just so nice that to have a more negative reaction then a shrug would have been like someone being mad if Varda had won.

Huh, I wouldn’t have thought so, but being 5’3” might make my perception of ‘tall’ different haha.
