Technically you could count as many as 1190 films officially in the set, but likely we'll only see covers.

Please.
Still hoping, especially now that Anima is also out (on Netflix).

domino harvey wrote:Realistically, I can't see this being any single title but Citizen Kane or the Grand Budapest Hotel. But it could very well be a big celebratory label-spanning box set that we haven't even guessed at, something along the lines of a Blu-ray version of the huge Janus box with lots of titles from across the years included or some other larger theme as opposed to a single director. Keep in mind that no one saw the giant Bergman box coming either, so it may be a complete surprise. But it's probably just Citizen Kane
I agree. Not yet mentioned, but I heard on the latest criterion now podcast: Criterion likes punny spine numbers like 666 and 984, grand is slang for 1000, therefore “1000 Budapest hotel” would be a spine number pun.

Yeah, only I'm the one that gave them the idea for 1984

I recently started to think it would not be Kane. Surely someone, like a content contributor would’ve leaked the title or CC themselves would’ve suggested the title by putting pics or images on social media. The title is too big not to get a little juice before hand.

The GRAND Budapest Hotel does sound like a CC move.

Bamboo sled would like a word

And I also think that Citizen Kane at spine 1001 as a hat tip to LD 0001 seems possibly more likely than CK at 1000

We’ve had basically no indication at all that Grand Budapest is in the immediate pipeline, and Anderson’s currently deep in editing his latest. I really don’t imagine it’ll be any time soon.

There is no doubt that Kane is coming but I don't think it's now. I think the earliest will be first quarter of 2020. I could see The Other Side of the Wind getting released Oct, Nov or Dec.

Someone may have already suggested this but I think it would be funny if they left #1000 unused for a year or something like they did with #1. It would generate some big laff-a-minute meltdowns in certain quarters!!

If spine 1000 is going to be announced special, and the fifteenth is on Monday, the. The announcement would probably be tomorrow or Friday, and the kids can close this thread.

***
At the above couple posts, it’d be pretty hilarious if they announce CK as spine 1000 and then say “it will take is a while to perfect the release, but it’ll probably be out within the year.”

And if grand Budapest isnt happening due to scheduling, I could see them punning grand by re releasing grand illusion (not a new spine number)
