I like the new covers. They seem to fit with the new logo as well.

Yeah, I'm surprised at how much that "Wacky C" has grown on me. The only cover that it really bugs me on now is the slipcase for the Rohmer set. That cover was clearly designed with the old design in mind.

I don't know, if you check out amazon.com they seem to have a wacky c-less cover and it looks great!

Soooo much better. They could even put the C on that Amazon cover and it would look okay.

I agree. The Amazon cover looks more like a book cover.

I think I prefer Suzanne on the criterion cover, though. She looks like she's wigging out on the amazon cover.

Wait, now Criterion is doing alternate covers for some of their DVDs? Is emulating a comic book industry practice one of their new business schemes all of a sudden?

The criterion cover is like 17*better [1] than the amazon one.

Disclaimer: [1] The number 17 is subjective and based on aethestic judgments by godardslave alone. No mathematical equations were hurt during the computation of this number. Hi Mom. Eric Rohmer owns. Some aethestic taste might not be available in your area. Godardslave is not liable for any damages written or implied by this statement. If in doubt, consult your doctor. They won't actually release both covers. Sometimes retailers are sent different artwork than Criterion ends up using. Criterion has also been known to change their own posted artwork prior to release. You can see some examples of alternate Criterion artwork here.

the six moral tales alternate at the bottom is something I made, to replicate the old cover design, but I guess we never made the section specific only to 'possible' alternate covers.

I could do without the "From the director of..." blurb (I'm hoping that will only be a sticker on the cellophane wrapper), but otherwise, I like it.

thats got to be the new sticker format. the colors are a bit odd to me, we'll see what it looks like when I get it in my hands.

Those are the same four colors that showed up on my CGA monitor in the 1980s.

I believe this is the first Criterion cover that says "A film by" in another language. This new desings are amazing. I'm beginning to love the "wacky c".

Ummm ... "Una Palícula de Alfonso Cuarón"?

But of course Criterion often has problems spelling even english words correctly.

It would also be the first " A film by the director of....", right? I'm not sure I'm buying this cover.

That may be, but it isn't as mercenary, on the part of Criterion, as the original marketing of those films by the director of 400 Blows.

I don't want to keep ragging on this, but I think that the covers of clean, shaven and hands over the city look amazing except for the C's in the corner. I don't really like it on the other covers either but I think it's even more of a big deal when I really really like the cover designs except for the C's. Even if the C did fit in with these covers they've been showing, there's no way that the logo's could fit in with every single cover they release. There are rules of design (which can be bent to a great degree) but the blocky C and blocky tab are so distracting. The old Criterion logo was so less imposing than this one. It's just confusing.
