Yeah, I'm surprised at how much that "Wacky C" has grown on me. The only cover that it really bugs me on now is the slipcase for the Rohmer set. That cover was clearly designed with the old design in mind.
Wait, now Criterion is doing alternate covers for some of their DVDs? Is emulating a comic book industry practice one of their new business schemes all of a sudden?
The criterion cover is like 17*better [1] than the amazon one.

They won't actually release both covers. Sometimes retailers are sent different artwork than Criterion ends up using. Criterion has also been known to change their own posted artwork prior to release. You can see some examples of alternate Criterion artwork here.
the six moral tales alternate at the bottom is something I made, to replicate the old cover design, but I guess we never made the section specific only to 'possible' alternate covers.
I believe this is the first Criterion cover that says "A film by" in another language. This new desings are amazing. I'm beginning to love the "wacky c".

It would also be the first " A film by the director of....", right? I'm not sure I'm buying this cover.
I don't want to keep ragging on this, but I think that the covers of clean, shaven and hands over the city look amazing except for the C's in the corner. I don't really like it on the other covers either but I think it's even more of a big deal when I really really like the cover designs except for the C's. Even if the C did fit in with these covers they've been showing, there's no way that the logo's could fit in with every single cover they release. There are rules of design (which can be bent to a great degree) but the blocky C and blocky tab are so distracting. The old Criterion logo was so less imposing than this one. It's just confusing.
