Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
was there a tease around Long Good Friday? or did everyone decide that was a good guess
I know I should know the answer since I took over (and abandoned) my duties as speculation roundup person. but there's just so few clues nowadays ultimately

I feel like this is never coming at this point. I can’t imagine what the hold-up would be and it’s been almost 5 years since its release.therewillbeblus wrote:Atlantics 4K
Another one I feel is never coming, but wow do I dream of a “The Complete Arguments of Paul Dedalus” box set.therewillbeblus wrote:My Sex Life, or How I Got Into an Argument

I’ve given up on Shirkers, as I saw a Q&A with its filmmaker a few weeks ago, and she made no mention of it getting a home video release. Such a shame, as it’s one of THE great hidden gems on Netflix and they keep wanting to include more films from women of color

I have renewed hope since Diop won the Golden Bear for her second film. Perhaps they’re waiting for that to be released.Matt wrote:I feel like this is never coming at this point. Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
I would love to see "Pratidwandi" and "Aranyer Din-Rātri" as Criterion releases. However, I have not read anywhere that these films have been restored. Neither of them was shown at the Satyajit Ray retrospective in New York City some years ago. Chances of Criterion undertaking restoration of either of these films seems to me to be remote.

All of Ray’s films have been restored or at least safely preserved by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. I saw a beautiful new 35mm print of The Adversary at TIFF some years back. Many of his films look great despite having very poor original materials, although some, like Kanchenjungha, still look pretty dire

In that case someone should release "Complete Works of Satyajit Ray" with the same care that Criterion gave the Ingmar Bergman set. It is a crime that so many great works of Ray languish.beamish14 wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 6:46 amkekid wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 3:17 am I would love to see "Pratidwandi" and "Aranyer Din-Rātri" as Criterion releases. It was screened in conjunction with her short film Gourmet Baby, which would have been an incredible supplement.

Tell us about it. They’re sitting on a huge number of Fassbinder and Nagisa Oshima films, too

Not from Criterion, the film (and most, if not all, of LVT) is with MUBI.
