A visceral blend of body-horror and psychological thriller rooted in Mexican folklore, Huesera: The Bone Woman is a compelling exploration of the fears and expectations of motherhood. Director Michelle Garza Cervera masterfully blends psychological terror with raw emotion, crafting a gripping tale of identity, sacrifice, and the unseen forces haunting domestic life.

Valeria has always dreamed of becoming a mother, but when she finally discovers she’s pregnant, a creeping sense of unease takes hold of her. As she prepares for her baby’s arrival, she’s plagued by terrifying visions and an eerie presence that only she can see. With her loved ones dismissing her fears and her past life pulling her in an unexpected direction, Valeria is forced to confront a chilling truth that threatens to consume her completely.

Huesera: The Bone Woman expertly uses haunting imagery and bone snapping tension to question the cost of rigid societal expectations, resulting in a masterwork of atmosphere and suspense.

I quite like this film, but I'd be on the fence about buying a 4K upgrade of it - and this is just a Blu-ray.
