Strangely where I have it saved in my amazon.fr wishlist the price has been revised up to nearly 70 euros...
I wonder what's going on?
Sucks though.

Friend of a friend at Gaumont says that it's not cancelled and there should be a release before the end of the year.

Keep in mind the Godard's book is much cheaper at Amazon.fr -- 42.75 Euros, which translates to $54.16 at the current exchange rate.

The new edition in one volume is the same one as the 4 volume one (which was OOP) but the format is smaller.

It's probably JLG himself causing the delay... He can be quite difficult, blowing hot and cold, as the Pompidou Centre found out...

Never ever underestimate the power of Gaumont - they have the rights right from the beginning and JLG was always displeased with the one Video Tape release so i can't see no reason why he should be causing the delay. Gaumont is definitely no joke!

Amazon now says
'Disponibilité : Actuellement indisponible
Nous vous recommandons de consulter cette page régulièrement pour savoir si cet article est à nouveau disponible à la vente sur notre site.
'

Availability: Currently unavailable

I've already had my order of this cancelled once and I nearly ordered it again but that probably would have been cancelled as well. I think I'll just try and forget about this release for a while or it'll drive me mad. If it does eventually turn up then that will be a nice surprise.

For those who don't require subtitles. Maybe AE could do the same...

I've just received the Spanish set linked to above. From a quick inspection it looks very good. There is a Gaumont logo at the start of each segment, so I assume the French set (if/when it appears) will be using the same transfer. No English subtitles on the Spanish DVDs, of course, and the Spanish subs are burnt-in - this is apparently so that their screen position can be adjusted to avoid clashing with Godard's own on-screen text, and also so that they can be colour-coded to differentiate between translations of the on-screen text and the voice-over. The same difficulties may be what prevents Gaumont from putting English subs on the French edition.

That's not at all good. I may have been tempted otherwise.

No, player generated subtitles can go anywhere on the screen. This feature is sometimes used to spacially associate subs with speakers. However, most of the time it is used to avoid clashes with credits or burnt-in subs in a bilingual film.

Burnt-in subs are either intra-european region coding or the spanish transfer was done from a print intended for spanish theaters.

Is this news or just a mistake? March 20 release date in France? If true, that would bode very well for eventual English-subbed release by AE or somebody. Plus, 2x50 ans de cinema francais and L'origine du XXIeme siecle as extras.
